Thus finishes perhaps the best week Ive had. It wasnt the outcomes of COP19 (a surprising, although weak, loss and damages mechanism and relatively shaky path to the 2015 agreement) that made it. It was the people I worked with and what we achieved at COP19 that gives me both fond memories and a sense of hope for the future. In Warsaw I had the pleasure of working (and almost living with) youth involved with the Intergenerational Equity (Inteq) Group, who you can happily see in my new cover photo. In Warsaw these youth decided that the principle of Intergenerational Equity finally had to be recognised and operationalised in the convention. Someone had to speak for future generations. After two weeks of tireless, yet somehow fun, work we managed to : 1. Get a reference to future generations inserted into the ADP text. It is the first time since the creation of the climate negotiations over 20 years ago that there has been any such moral temporal dimension mentioned. More importantly, we changed the discourse of the ADP negotiations in the process. 2. Had over 70 countries (and counting) sign our Warsaw Declaration on Intergenerational Equity and Climate Change endorsing our policy points. This included the signatures of many heads of state and ministers. Ill be leaving Warsaw with many new friends dispersed across the globe and a small, but important, collective fingerprint upon an international political declaration. #Inteq #WinningfortheFuture
