Tidal Energy Farm An individual tidal energy device is capable of producing up to 4 MW, depending upon the design of the device. The capacity factor for these devices varies from 30-45%. The availability of energy produced by these facilities varies with the daily rise and fall of the tide (glossary term) . Tidal energy resources are available only part of the day when the tidal velocities are sufficient for the turbines (glossary term) to operate, but tidal currents are very predictable. The capacity factor is a function of this availability as well as equipment malfunctions and maintenance activities.
