Tiger Roll confirmed for Cheltenham reappearance on Saturday Tuesday, October 14, 2014 - Grade One JCB Triumph Hurdle hero Tiger Roll is set to reappear in the £30,000 Masterson Holdings Hurdle (3.10pm, eight entries) over an extended two miles at Cheltenham on Saturday, October 18. The son of Authorized was a comfortable three and a quarter length winner of the four-year-old hurdle championship at The Festival in March but did not replicate that form when seventh in the Punchestown equivalent on his latest outing on May 3. His trainer Gordon Elliott and owner Gigginstown House Stud are also responsible for Clarcam, who made a winning reappearance at Limerick on October 12. He was also a high-class performer last season, with the pick of his efforts coming when second to Guitar Pete in the Grade One Injured Jockeys Fund 50th Anniversary 4-Y-O Hurdle at Aintree in April. Elliott reported: I think Tiger Roll will run in the Masterson Holdings Hurdle as long as the ground is not too soft, but Clarcam wont take part. Tiger Roll seems in good form and well in himself. It is obviously his first start of the season and you have got to start somewhere. Tiger Rolls potential rivals include the highly-regarded Calipto (Paul Nicholls), wide-margin Chepstow scorer Bertimont (Dan Skelton) and course scorer Ballyglasheen (Evan Williams). Mart Lane is chasing another valuable prize for trainer Dr Richard Newland when he lines up in the £50,000 Showcase Trophy (3.45pm, 23 entries) over three miles and a furlong. The nine-year-old stayed on strongly to record an ultimately decisive two and a half-length victory over Dursey Sound (Jonjo ONeill) in the Listed 888sport Handicap Chase at Market Rasen on September 27. It was a welcome return to form for the son of Stowaway who had been pulled up in three of his four previous starts. Newland said: Mart Lane is definitely an intended runner in the Showcase Trophy. He came out of Market Rasen well and is in good form. I think the trip at Market Rasen (an extended two and three quarter miles) was probably a bit on the short side for him. He stayed on nicely so hopefully the extra distance on Saturday will be a plus and not a negative. He got a virus in the early spring, as one or two of mine did, and I should have knocked it on the head because he never really recovered from it. Other high-profile entries for the Showcase Trophy include the lightly-raced course victor Le Bec (Emma Lavelle) and Kerry National winner Your Busy (James Nash). Mon Parrain scored under a brilliant ride from Nick Scholfield at The April Meeting at Cheltenham and is one of two entries for champion trainer Paul Nicholls, while 2013 Festival scorer Golden Chieftain (Colin Tizzard) and Champion Court (Martin Keighley) are also engaged. Grade One Manifesto Novices Chase scorer Uxizandre (Alan King) features among 23 entries for the £50,000 Marie Curie Cancer Care Handicap Chase (2.35pm) over two and a half miles. He could clash with Johns Spirit (Jonjo ONeill), who used victory in this race last season as a stepping-stone to Paddy Power Gold Cup glory, and Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase third Claret Cloak (Emma Lavelle). Ainsi Fideles (David Pipe), who is chasing a six-timer following a prolific summer campaign, and Champion Court are also engaged. Going The going at Cheltenham is now: Good to Soft (from Good yesterday) Simon Claisse, Regional Head of Racing, South West & Clerk of the Course, Cheltenham, said today at 12.50pm: We have had 42 millimetres of rain since Monday morning and the going is now Good to Soft. It is not raining at the moment. The forecast for the rest of the week remains unsettled, with some bits and pieces of rain around.
