Tigers #1 Seed in LHSAA 4A Bracket... Baton Rouge, LA The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released the 2013 Prep Football playoff pairings on Sunday with 12 area teams earning first-round home games and many more making the field either with a bye in the first round or having to travel. Area teams with the best seeding include Neville taking No. 1 in Class 4A, No. 2 Mangham in 1A, No. 2 Caldwell in 3A, No. 3 Union Parish in 3A, No. 2 Ouachita Christian in Division IV, No. 4 Cedar Creek in Division IV, No. 6 West Monroe in 5A, No. 9 Ouachita in 5A, No. 6 Richwood in Class 3A, No. 6 Sterlington in 2A, No. 8 Oak Grove in 2A, No. 6 St. Frederick in Division IV, and No. 10 Delhi Charter in Division IV. With the first year of a select and non-select split in the postseason, some district foes will not be in the same brackets for the playoffs and some divisions such as select Division I has only 10 teams in the postseason to begin with. Because of the small number of teams in the select divisions and in Class 1A, some area teams will get a bye into the second round. Two-time defending Class 1A champion Ouachita Christian is the No. 2-seed in the Division IV bracket and will, along with No. 4 Cedar Creek of Ruston, receive a first-round bye in the first round. The new setup is still something that will take some getting used too said OCS head coach Steven Fitzhugh. “It is just kind of weird actually,” Fitzhugh said when asked about his reaction to getting a bye in the first round. “It is weird, because it is an exciting time with the playoffs starting but (we) don’t have an opponent to get ready for. It is a positive in the sense that we get to scout, and that we get to go out and work on some fundamentals that you don’t normally get to do when you are preparing for someone.” At Mangham, the Dragons are the No. 2-seed in the Class 1A bracket and head coach Tommy Tharp is just taking it as it comes this postseason. “I don’t think it really matters what I think about it,” Tharp said of getting the first round off. “It some ways it is good, but also you have to look at the way you practice and not let any rust issues come up.” There will be some intriguing local matchups in the area this week including an immediate rematch from last Friday night as No. 11 Franklin Parish hosts No. 22 Wossman in Class 4A. “It is a lot of anxiety on both sides right now,” Franklin Parish coach Barry Sebren said. “We know how well matched we are (with Wossman). We have to play better, because we know they will. Whoever ups their game is going to win.” Neville, as the 4A top seed, will host No. 32 South Terrebonne and No. 28 Bastrop will visit No. 5 Warren Easton. All three area Class 5A teams will host first-round games with No. 13 Ruston hosting fellow 2-5A member, No. 20 Natchitoches Central. Ruston beat the Chiefs 31-0 on Oct. 11. No. 6 West Monroe hosts No. 27 Denham Springs and No. 9 Ouachita will host No. 24 Hahnville.
