Tigers Too Strong for Steeldogs The Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs travelled to Telford to take on the Tigers. They were without Andre Payette and Craig Elliott. The Steeldogs started brightly but the Tigers scored on their first meaningful attack with Joe Miller getting the Tigers off the mark. Within the blink of an eye Szabo had doubled the lead for the home side. The Steeldogs spent quite some time camped in their own D zone and on 9:43 McKenzie made it 3-0. The Steeldogs found themselves killing another penalty when Tom Squires controlled the puck and broke out. He located Jeff Legue who found the net with a short-handed goal. Conceding a goal didn’t seem to put Telford off their stride and Silverthorn pushed down the wing, cut inside and beat Sedlar with a back handed shot. The period ended with a 4-1 score line in favour of the home team. The second period got underway and again Telford began pressing forward and on 23:46 Sedlar lost his stick as the puck was cycled ferociously by Telford and Plant was there to bury the puck behind Sedlar. The Steeldogs started to see a little more of the puck and made a little more forward pressure until Szabo showed the Dogs a clean pair of heels and sent the puck top shelf to make it 6-1. Sheffield skated straight from the face off into the Tigers zone and Tom Squires persistence was rewarded as he looped the puck over Gospel. With a score of 6-2 to Telford, Tom Watkins gave Owen Bennett his first shift of the night which was cheered by the home fans. Ben Morgan gave him a warm welcome by checking him in the corner and sitting him down on the ice. No further scoring in the 2nd. The game settled in the third with Telford content to keep the puck and the Steeldogs working hard to get possession - but unable to create many quality chances. On 53:59 Plant scored the 7th goal, with Owen Bennett enjoying his champagne moment getting a secondary assist on the goal. Soon Szabo was on hand to score the 8th and final goal of the game with Sedlar being pulled out of position. With 34 seconds left we were treated to a Pattison and Bennett showdown with the enforcers having fisticuffs. Blows were exchanged but it was Patto who emerged the victor putting Bennett on the ice. The game finished with an 8-2 victory to the home team. Man of the Match for Telford was awarded to Rick Plant and the Steeldogs Man of the Match was awarded to Ben Morgan. A tough weekend for the Steeldogs. Time to regroup this week during training and get ready for an away weekend. The long trip to Bracknell and then a drive up north to Billingham.
