Tijuana, Baja California always had a thriving jazz scene, there - TopicsExpress

Tijuana, Baja California always had a thriving jazz scene, there was a bohemian block and just about every big name in jazz dropped by. Bass jazz great Charles Mingus was in love with the city. The Beats were the avant garde, the real cool people. My brother was playing the a Go-Go and rockn roll cover clubs that Carlos Santana had played a few years Before. A gay club owner came up and told him that things had changed, a wave of hippies was ready to invade from San Francisco and elsewhere, to get ready, beatniks were no longer to cool ones. Charles Mingus is considered to be one of the premier jazz bass players, period. The Pachuco bands from East L. A. were regulars at Central Avenue jazz clubs in Los Angeles. Charles Mingus took bass classes fron Don Tosti. youtu.be/QvJqjbZQVrM
