Time Management for CS/CA/CWA students Hello CA Aspirants, Time management – Time to move on ! Time management is essential for success both in life and in exams. Some tips for time management for students are given below - Set a target: The first thing a student is required to do is to have a dream or to set a target to achieve. For eg a CS student sets a target marks of 70/100 to achieve in the exams. He may set target for other subjects also. His dream may be to become a company secretary within 3 yrs. Some students may ask about setting the target and need of having a dream about life. The answer is simple. How can we reach Chennai if we gets into a bus going directly to Mysore? So to fix your destination and to select the route to reach there is equally important. The student can choose a ‘role model ‘ and correct his/her activities to achieve more heights than the ‘role model’ !. Any way don’t imitate that person, remember that ‘role model’ is just a ‘model’ to inspire you. Count & update your resources: The students should first see that he has the sufficient resources to move towards the target. The student may have the study material, previous years question papers, Bare Acts, personal notes etc to move forward with his/her studies. Where the student feels that the resources he possess is not enough to score good marks, then he should collect them first and then proceed with studies. He/ She can buy, borrow, download from websites the books, articles or question papers which would help in his/her studies. The students would be able to relax and move ahead with his study time table if he has the resources. Division of study: The student shall divide the study material topics into small parts and study them step by step. He can divide the study material of 700 pages into 7 pages per day ie. 100 days or based on the total time available. Time-table: The student shall have a time-table ie. time for each activity and subject under study. He should allot time for sleeping, exercises, prayer, food, hobbies, entertainment and his studies. This may vary from person to person and fixing a time for everything would help you relax. You should divide the 24 hrs of a day, 30/31 days of a month and so on according to your targets and dreams. Make use of the available time more effectively. While allotting time for studies you should allot more time for difficult subjects for eg. If you are weak in accounting, you should allot more time for subject and practice the questions available.Within the subject of study you can prioritize chapters based on the number of pages or relevance. However, the students shall ensure that they are not mechanical in their activities, just to follow the time table. The student shall develop a thirst for knowledge and build day by day his/her knowledge. Find time to attend seminars/conferences and try to interact with professionals. This will boost your confidence and thirst for knowledge. Also find time to read corporate magazines, corporate news, visit websites/blogs containing useful information, interact with your colleagues etc. Share your knowledge ! Knowledge increases with sharing ! Read titles and then begin: While studying a chapter or study material, first go through the captions or titles first, then read the sub-titles and so on. Comply with the time-table: One should try to comply with the time table to maximum possible extent. If on one day, you are not able to stick on to the time table, then no need to worry or change your mind. Try to adjust the time lost by allotting more time for the subjects you left out that day. Standard time vs actual time: The student shall see daily or weekly or monthly as the case may be , that he has followed the time table and whether he has failed to comply with it frequently. If you feels that the time table you have prepared is going worse, then you can edit the same, but not too much. Your dream and target shall be there before your eyes while doing such things. Flexibility of time table is desirable, but it shall not ruin your dreams and try to be honest & sincere to your studies. Notes writing: The students shall allot time to write down important points in the chapter under study. When you write, you can remember more. Anyway, the student shall judiciously allot time for writing or making notes while studying. Exam time review: If you have followed the study-time table, you may feel relaxed when you near the exams. For those who have covered the whole syllabus, they can use this time to revise what they studied. Mock tests will help you a lot. Exam hall: Don’t forget to take the required items eg. Hall ticket, pen, pencil, calculator etc. Be prepared. You are facing a battle where you are going to present your ability and the efforts of previous days. Don’t worry over areas you have not covered. You have studied more than what you have left. Hope the God in heaven will help you in this battle. When you get the question papers, take some time to read it. Try to create a time schedule for each answer or set of questions. For eg. 1 minute for 1 mark question, or 10 minutes for 15 mark question (depending on your ability and questions pattern). When you write, answer to the question. Don’t confuse the examiner with vague answers or mixed expressions. That will push him into a mental state which may compel him to deduct marks. Don’t leave any question unanswered. Write to achieve! Not to lose! Importance of the above mentioned things: In CS/CA/CWA exams, the following are important- - More efforts required when compared to degree/PG exams - More specific answers expected. Vague answers not accepted by examiners. - Involves case studies or case laws which may confuse you - Expert knowledge makes you ‘different’ from others. Some questions may test your indepth knowledge. - Only 5 to 6 months gap between each chance - Only 3 hrs to write exams (there also time management essential) - Once you miss, you have to wait for 5 to 6 months for your next chance. So its important to set your targets today and move ahead. Good luck!
