Time To Name Sponsors Of Insurgency In Nigeria stanley nkwocha — May 16, 2014 The Bf109 are amongst the latest fighter jets in the world. Their advent made the era of F19s look like kiddie play. The Nigerian government can deploy millions of these jets to its airspace and continue unabatedly to flush out insurgents hiding whether in the Sambisa forests or the high mountains of Cameroun. The fact, however, is that the battle to eliminate insurgency is not one to be accorded a half measure – as the raids will portend. If the Jonathan administration is serious at fighting insurgency it must cut the evil tree from the roots and that entails revealing the sponsors of insurgents in the country as well as their foreign collaborators. President Jonathan cannot say that he does not have intelligence on these persons. I am however, made to understand that ‘2015 politics’ is the main reason why he has decided to look away. Unfortunately, these ‘look away’ continues to cost us billions of naira in terms of lives and property. There just must be a time when the president must act, there just must be a time to draw the battle lines and it can never be farther than now. If the president does not think that the human losses and wanton destruction of properties that insurgency has cost us is not enough to declare full blown war against insurgency, let the aspersions being cast on his person and government by both nationals and the international community be the reason to. It is time to reveal these names no matter whose ox is gored as the dictates of the time suggests no friend in this business! Chibok: One Month And Still Counting It is a full month since the callous abduction of over 200 school girls in Chibok. At the moment, the Boko Haram sect seems the most active as they continue to post video releases at will and take the driver’s seat in making offers. At a time like this, it is only natural that anxiety takes the better part of us especially on the part of parents of the girls involved. Having to see their girls in such hapless manner and forcefully converted to Islam can be most provocative. However, even though the government of the day was slow in acting, I am optimistic that with the involvement of the international community in the bid to rescue the girls, it would not be long before we make a headway. These trying times necessitate that prayers and national resolve to say no to intimidation no matter the form it takes is whole heartedly embraced. The abduction of the Chibok girls has dealth a huge blow to our psyche both as individuals and nation. I am of the opinion that that should be the limit of the victory, for if our hearts and souls give in too, we would have lost it as a nation. President Jonathan and his service chiefs dare not see this happen to us. And the message remains simple :# ‘BringBackOurGirls’! Missing Girls And OBJ’s Asserts In far away Kenya, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has ‘ruled’ that President Goodluck Jonathan aside being overwhelmed by insurgency we are faced with needed to embark on carrot and stick approach. I have been thinking why he never adopted carrot and stick in Zaki Biam and Odi, even when civilians were the causative agents in those crisis? Anyway thank God Baba’s remarks were this mild, I had expected something much more! The GOC Shooting In Maiduguri Not everything or perhaps even the truth has been told us about the shooting in Maiduguri by armed soldiers on the General Officer Commanding the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Mohammed in Maiduguri. While we commensurate with the Army over the loss of the soldiers that were ambushed by armed gunmen following alleged orders they received to return to Maiduguri from Chibok against their wish at night, the tension need not have been further heightened by the soldiers. I do not know what the military command is like in terms of expressing grievances but to have opted for the guns and shot at the GOC was unfortunate. The frustrations are clearly setting in, it would however amount to double jeopardy if we lose it in the bushes and still lose it in the barracks. All hands must be on deck to ensure that this is not the case. Power Play: Umar Vs Bwacha Who says political power is grabbed easily. The fight for it is second to none. Ask Taraba acting governor, Garba Umar and Taraba South Senator, Emmanuel Bwacha and you get to understand what I’m talking about. 2015 governorship is the big price and for both Umar and Bwacha , the daggers are out, it is fight till finish. While Umar has tasted the juice in an exalted office like the governor’s and sworn not to hand it over, for folks like Bwacha, he just has to pass the cup as ‘sitting tight’ was not part of the initial plan, arrangement and agreement. And with a Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai that would have sorted out the mess in Taraba still recuperating, it will be interesting to see how the scuffle ends.
