Time again for this poem I wrote the day after September 11, 2001 In order not to be in denial, it is necessary to acknowledge that there is both good and bad in life. Then we can go forth and do the good work of combatting the bad by doing good. I do this by working in my job in mental health elderly with some of the most difficult people to work with and in the volunteer work my daughter Mary and I do with foster care for cats and kittens. Let There Be Peace On Earth And Let It Begin With Me I am small. Each of us is only one. I will begin by connecting with love to each person I encounter. May each kind act I do engender others. May each cruel act I encounter and deflect or diffuse die a quiet death. We are all in the same boat. So may we each use our oars to work together to row in a positive direction. May we carry along those who cannot row with heartfelt compassion. Take time each day to hold the entire world – goodness and badness – in your heart. Only then will we find and make true peace.
