Time for This Weekend in Stanly County, thanks to Bridget Huckabee and the Stanly County CVB. Visit Stanly County and Norwood! This Weekend in Stanly County By Bridget Huckabee School days and Labor Day are looming on the horizon signaling summer’s end. Now is the time to enjoy your weekends in Stanly County by taking advantage of the last long days and light-filled evenings of the season. We have music in the cool of the evening, an art sale, a cruise-in, a farmers’ market and more. Thursday evening is the time to go downtown in Albemarle and enjoy an open-air concert at Market Station. As part of the Albemarle Parks & Recreation Department’s free summer concert series titled “Thursdays @ The Station”, you’ll hear a variety of music that includes gospel, rock, pop, bluegrass and more. This week enjoy the music of Black Saturn. The genre is pop and the time is 8 pm. Bring a chair, grab a drink from the concession stand and settle down for some good listening. Falling Rivers Gallery is filled with art by talented local artists. This weekend they’re sprucing up the Gallery with a new coat of paint and need to move the art. They would rather sell it than move it so hurry on down and look for the yellow dots for savings on paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry and more. Friday is the last day of the sale. Don’t miss this great opportunity to buy some good art at a good price. Friday evening and its time to head to Badin for Pickin’ on the Porch. This popular regular Friday evening entertainment takes place on the fan-cooled porch of the historic Badin Inn. Here you can sit back, listen to the music and, if you choose, eat and drink while you admire the beautiful scenery around you. This week’s artist is Arsena Schroeder, a talented young lady who’ll entertain you a cappella with R and B and soul music. The fourth Friday of the month is the time for the popular Oakboro Cruise-in and Burnout. The fun begins at 5 pm and the Burnout begins at 9 pm. If you’ve never attended this event it’s time to give it a try. You’ll love the beautifully maintained classic cars and trucks and enjoy the unique fun of the Burnout. There’s a lot of activity on Oakboro’s main street during the evening with music, vendors and classic car owners who love to tell you all about their history. Friday, Saturday and Sunday brings the Fork Classic with FITASC to Norwood’s Fork Farm and Stables, a world-class equestrian and shooting facility. The event is from 8 am until 5 pm each day. Saturday is the day for the Stanly County Farmers’ Market in downtown Albemarle at Market Station. The stalls are ready for business at 8 am and stay open until noon. Here you’ll find all the fresh locally grown produce you need as well as home-made cakes, bread and pies, and arts and crafts. Come and browse in this user friendly venue. Here’s a heads up for next week: On Thursday August 29, the Stanly County Museum and the Stanly County Historical Society bring you the story of the lost archives of the Confederate States of America. And on Saturday, August 31, the Falling Rivers Gallery invites you to a Batik Workshop. More next week on these events. Meanwhile, enjoy your weekend in Stanly County.
