Time for a little trivia, I know its a lot to read, but I think youll find it informative. If you grew up watching cartoons during the late 50s, through the 60s and 70s and well into the 80s and even the early 90s, its most likely any cartoon show you watched contained the voices of one or more of the following actors. Don Messick: he did the voice for shows such as Yogi Bear (Ranger Smith and Booboo), Jonny Quest, (Dr. Benton Quest), The Smurfs (Papa Smurf) and Scooby Doo. Paul Frees: He did voices for cartoon shows such as Rocky and Bullwinkle (Boris Badenov), The Flinstones, The Fantastic Four (Ben Grimm aka The Thing), Hoppity Hooper, The Banana Splits, The Pink Panther, Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles (Fluid Man) , Rudolphs Frosty New Year (Jack Frost), Santa Clause is Coming To Town (Burgermeister Meisterburger), plus roles in live action movies and TV series. (War Of The Worlds, 1953 version) and others. Daws Butler: Did appeared in almost every cartoon feature other than Disney cartoons from the 1940s through the 1980s. He was on shows like Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Magilla Gorilla, The Flinstones, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Probably my favorite character was in the Droopy cartoons where he played the wolf. Mel Blanc: There probably isnt enough room here to describe Mel Blancs career. He was THE voice of 70% of Warner Brothers cartoon characters during his lifetime. He also did the voice of Mr. Spacely on the Jetsons. He also appeared as a regular on the Jack Benny radio show and was the voice of Bugs Bunny up until his death in 1989. As the voice of Bugs, he actually would bite off a bit of carrot and chew to make the sound effect. The only problem was that Blanc was allergic to carrots and had to have a bucket close by to spit the carrot into. They tried using the sound of him biting other fruits or vegetables, but nothing sounded like the carrot. The show must to on really applied here. Howard Morris: Howard Morris is probably most identified with the Ernest T. Bass character he played on the Andy Griffith Show. Most probably wouldnt place him as the voice for TV cartoon characters Atom Ant. He also did the voice of Jughead on the TV cartoon show The Archies as well as voices on the Garfield Show and Scooby Doo. He was just as at home behind the camera as in front as he directed episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, The Love Boat, Get Smart, Gomer Pyle, The Dick Van Dyke Show and Trapper John MD. He also directed the movie, Whos Minding The Mint.. Ted Cassidy: Cassidy was best known for his character Lurch on the Addams Family TV show. He also had a role in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. He was a prolific cartoon voice artist with roles in Space Ghost, Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles (Frankenstein Jr.), The New Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Injun Joe), Tarzan Lord Of The Jungle, Super Friends and made several appearances on the original Star Trek series. (live as well as voice) Hal Smith: Best known for his portrayal of Otis Campbell, the town drunk on The Andy Griffith Show, Smith was one of the main voices in the Scooby Doo cartoons until his death in 1994. He appeared in early cartoon series such as Scott McCloud Space Angel and Clutch Cargo. He went on to appear in such shows as Quick Draw McGraw, The Flintstones and Davey and Goliath. Frank Welker: Ive only seen Frank Welker in one live action production and that was in the 1971 movie How To Frame A Figg which starred Don Knotts. He has been the voice of Freddie in the Scooby Doo cartoons since Scooby began with Scooby Doo, Where Are You in 1969 with the exception of A Pup Named Scooby Doo. He even portrayed the voice of Scooby Doo in some of the Scooby Doo movies. If you name a cartoon show made since 1969, most likely Welker appeared in it as a character at least once if not on a regular basis. Its really hard to believe that so few people voiced so many characters, but these guys are the stars in their field.
