Time for my nightly gripe. People who engage in online debates or even spirited conversations about specific topics, please do me a favor; no matter how upset or frustrated you get, please refrain from bringing up the person youre talking tos mental health. You have no idea what they may be suffering from. It doesnt progress the conversation at all and it makes you look like an ass. Overall, its nothing more than a pointless, ad hominem attack. Recently, I had someone do this to me and Im not going to lie, it stung. Not because they were wrong, but because they happened to be correct with their guess. Not because of anything I said, because they had nothing intelligent to say and felt a need to get in another shot. They also equated what I have with intellectual weakness and lack of mental acuity. Anyone who really knows me understands that this claim couldnt be farther from the truth. Even still, it seemed like a cheap shot and a low blow. One which obviously didnt merit a direct response. Calling someone a moron or idiot for saying something thats blatantly false or unintelligible, isnt what Im talking about here. Suggesting that someone is autistic, has aspergers, ADHD or bipolar disorder on the other hand is both uncalled for and generally unacceptable in what should be a civilized conversation/debate.
