Time for some Truth Telling this Thursday! I got to watch the full episode of Iyanla Fix My Life with Terrell Owens. And the segment where he had a meeting with his father for the first time and cried like a little boy brought up some of my own childhood pain. Like Terrell Owens, I had an absent father who never said: I love you and Im there for you. I used to feel so much shame, like somehow it was my fault and if only I was good enough he would be there... I dreamed the day would come when he would want a relationship with me but four decades later it still hasnt happened. I forgive him and Im grateful for what hes contributed to my life genetically and otherwise. Im also very grateful for the men who have helped father me. My stepfather of 35 years moved me to tears recently when he told me: I love & admire you and Ive got your back.
