Time to Ban the Tan The Melanoma Foundation of NZ is advocating for a total ban on commercial solaria for cosmetic purposes. Government is proposing a ban of solaria (sunbeds) for persons under 18 years as part of the Health (Protection) Amendment bill. However, we don’t believe that this restriction goes far enough in addressing the increased risk of melanoma from sunbed use. Sunbed bans are happening everywhere and from January 2015 sunbeds will be banned in almost all states and territories in Australia. The Melanoma Foundation would like to see the same ban implemented here.
