Time to discard the car? Traveling by train within Europe is real fun in more ways than one. One can enjoy the well preserved nature, expansive landscape and what have you. But it is also stress inducing. Ask me how? The trains arrive and depart on time, every time! Not just that, it arrives at 12:34:30 secs and leaves at 12:35:30 secs! Going from India, where trains are at times late by hours, and sometimes even days, it used to cause lot of stress just thinking about the punctuality of the trains. My experience is that trains arriving or departing were ALWAYS on time! _____________________________________________________________ In my last trip within Karnataka, intentionally I chose to use the public transport to travel to three different cities. I booked my tickets online and the experience was exhilarating! But I noticed that the departure times were like 10:02 hours, 13:08 hours etc. I wanted to check how reliable these departure times were. As scheduled, I went to the bus station well before the departure time. The bus was scheduled to leave at 10:02 Hours. As soon as I went inside the bus station, it was sparkling clean! And I saw uniformed cleaners doing a meticulous job. There were dust bins (trash cans) kept at many places and I was quite amused to notice people using them! Then it was my turn to check out the bathrooms. It may not be a WOW experience, but the rest rooms are clean and usable. At 9:55 hours the bus arrives, and after all the formalities of boarding passengers , the bus leaves the bay. The time? 10:02 hours! Not bad at all. This was absolutely the case all through my journey of three cities! Every where the bus left on time and arrived on time….despite the chaotic roads at certain places and city traffic. In all the places, the bus stations are sparkling clean and rest rooms are clean. No exceptions. Time to discard the car yet? Hmmmm..maybe! It is a revelation! But, passengers should know that motion sickness is curable! :-( Chidananda Rupah Shivoham Shivoham Phanibhushan Sharma
