Time to look back over 2014! Over the next few days, Ill be reflecting on my personal highlights and favourites of the year. This is, of course, a ludicrously subjective process, based on what I heard, saw and experienced this year. The Lucius and St Vincent albums may be far better than anything I list, but I havent heard them, so theyre not there! Starting off with gig of the year, and its fair to say that in any other year, Nik Kershaw at An Grianan Theatre would have walked it. However, this year, Brendan Butler and I got to see the wonderful Hamell On Trial at Billy Browns in Kilkenny. A storming performance, and we were fairly close, as the following video will demonstrate. Yes, I am the one in the Spamalot shirt looking like a complete pillock!
