Time to outline some facts over a rather slanderous Facebook post in Cyprus Pointers available for rehoming page about Donna Kyriacou by Marta Malinka and Eric a dog recently humanly put to sleep. Eric was humanly put to sleep he had been with Donna Kyriacou at her kennels funded by us for over 6 weeks from day one he has had behavioural issues. This of course is to be expected new situation , stress etc but despite working with Eric daily no progress. Constant signs of aggression to many people in a variety of situations , picking fights with other dogs, growling when something was asked of him , several weeks in the first bite to a member of staff , still he was given chance to progress and move forward , several other bouts of snapping and growling until another bite on Monday more serious to Donna herself. Donna with over 25 years of experience with dog training and rescue and running boarding kennels with 35 dogs decided enough was enough. This dog was a time bomb waiting to go off not for homing in the UK it was an accident waiting to happen. If he had gone back to where he came from he would have ended up back in the system and could have been rehomed with tragic circumstances. Good dogs are put to sleep in Cyprus every day without being given the chance, this dog was given a chance and didnt make it, yes is sad but its a sad part of life in animal rescue. We have worked with Donna for a long time ,we trust her account of dogs she has had many so dogs for us and currently has 8 of our dogs all coming to the UK this month. I personally will not stand by and have such things said about her. Cyprus Pointers for rehoming group in its infancy was set up by Marta Malinka with myself and Janice Mcnaughton as admin in the group. Because I not Janice deleted the said slanderous post Marta has deleted us both as admin from the group. A rather foolish and childish thing to do and only the rehoming of dogs will suffer. Myself and Janice have worked tirelessly over the last year to build the group up and keep it going. Rehoming almost 70 Pointers from there and assisted around the same number with applications and home checks for other rescues. We created robust processes, fact and advice sheets, pre adoption forms , home checks, robust health checks and blood testing well over and above the standard needed for a dog entering the UK. A good character assessment of dogs before coming to the UK. All to ensure dogs are healthy and dogs and owners are happy. We carefully match dogs and applicants and turn unsuitable applicants down, this is why our failure rate is so low. We have funded and bought many rescues to UK foster homes and successfully homed them in the UK. Myself and Janice will no longer be involved or associated in the running of the Cyprus Pointer available for rehoming group, we will consider setting up our own group with the small group of trusted and reliable rescues and volunteers we have established in the last year. Those of you that know us and have followed us and seen our tireless work with rehoming and fundraising we will leave you form your own opinion.
