Time to share some good news. Mom has been relocated to Mercy - TopicsExpress

Time to share some good news. Mom has been relocated to Mercy Rehab Hospital (the brand new one) to the brain injury unit and is doing well with her new VERY busy rehabilitation schedule. She has a fantastic team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists but my goodness they are working her hard. She is exhausted (and gets frustrated). She is eating a soft diet and each meal is a big leap in amount consumed - steps toward getting rid of the feeding tube. Her biggest frustration is speech but some amazing channels seems to be opening up. Last week the speech therapist had her sing Jesus Loves Me and she found all the words. If you know my mom...it is NOT a coincidence that a flood of words came with singing about Jesus! Each day seems to bring a new-found word; this morning it was wonderful. Still hoping for some reaction in the right arm & leg but therapists say they see some small signs of improvement. My favorite change in the last week is the reappearance of bits of her personality - laughing, head shaking, tone of voice with some responses, and even some of what Tom calls her stink-eye. She had her first Andys Frozen Custard with peaches last night and laughed with pure joy when Jake handed it to her! Please continue to keep dad in your good thoughts. With moms progress comes even longer days as he is there to feed her every meal, tries to interpret her wants/needs, and assists with therapy.
