Time to talk about car stuff. So in 2005 I bought my 2001 Nissan Sentra Uncle Ho with 90k miles on it, and it had been serving me faithfully past the 200k mile mark until last Saturday. Thats when I decided to buy a 2011 used Nissan LEAF as a dedicated commuter car. I traded in Uncle Ho and hes gone forever now. BYE! With the cost of fuel all but eliminated with the 100% electrically powered LEAF, footing the bill for a newer vehicle was much easier to rationalize. While we have no garage, or outdoor outlet to charge the thing, we conveniently have a hole in our utility room (that was poorly / insufficiently patched up by the previous owner, the bank). I ran an outdoor extension cord through this hole and sealed it up like a pro because pros run extension cords through the exterior walls of their house instead of installing an outlet. Stop judging me, I didnt make the problem any worse. I erected an easy-up canopy to keep water from getting in the charging setup. Anyway, I can make it to and from work on a single charge. I really enjoy the vehicles modern features such as Bluetooth connection with my phone so I dont have to listen to the same 10 mix CDs anymore. I have dubbed the car Clyde, after the orange ghost in PacMan for reasons you likely dont care about. I got rid of the Sentra not because it was a bad car, it just needed more maintenance than I cared to give it, not being much of a grease monkey myself (though Ill always treasure the memory of personally replacing Uncle Hos starter). Ironically, Ive learned a lot about electric vehicles as part of becoming an owner of one, which I guess makes sense as Ive always been more of an electronics geek (shock monkey?). So feel free to bug me if you have any questions about how ol Clyde is working out.
