Time to wade in on this football players being too tired to play saga. I dont doubt that working a 9-5 (or longer) is exhausting and that yes, if you said to your boss, dont fancy it today, boss, bit tired, you would likely find yourself on the breadline or at least disciplined. However, you do not have a nation of fickle fans and mass media telling you that you didnt give it your all when you made that sandwich today at Subway, it was shite or the meeting you had with your employees today was boring and lacked energy. No, you go home, have a pint (something a lot of these football players sacrifice to keep themselves in top condition), and tomorrow its forgotten when you have a better day. Now, if Raheem Sterling plays and plays shit, he gets lambasted by the fans and the media. If Sterling doesnt play, is honest that he wont be able to give 100%, hes lambasted by the fans and the media. To borrow from the very wise Bart Simpson, youre damned if you do, and youre damned if you dont. I have no real opinion on the topic of overpaid (yes, I believe they are overpaid) footballers decisions on the limits of their bodies. However, I do have qualms when my news feed is full of uneducated retorts about decisions that are made, decisions that we as the public know very little about other than what is reported and published through those same sensationalized (somewhat fictional) mediums mentioned previously.
