Time with God is our happy place. Watch the video https://youtube/watch?v=PDbiJA5_I_c&feature=youtu.be Quick Hit! 22 No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. I want you to close your eyes and just for a moment, I want to you to look at God through your mind’s eye. What is God like? What does He want your life to be like? Not what does He want you to do, but how does God want you to feel about your life every moment of every day? It isn’t that God wants our lives to be filled with comfort and luxury and be free of trouble, but rather, it is that God wants our lives to be fulfilling and rewarding. If our lives are fulfilling and rewarding, then it doesn’t matter how much money you have (or don’t have), it doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive (or that you don’t even have a car). God is your biggest fan, and He wants you to grow and succeed in this thing called life. If you do things His way, God will make your life a happy place. If you choose your own way, then life offers heartache and trouble. Read the second paragraph of the passage I have selected below and see all that surrounds you as a Believer. Let’s take this one a little deeper. 18 You have not come to a physical mountain, to a place of flaming fire, darkness, gloom, and whirlwind, as the Israelites did at Mount Sinai. 19 For they heard an awesome trumpet blast and a voice so terrible that they begged God to stop speaking. 20 They staggered back under God’s command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21 Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said, “I am terrified and trembling.” 22 No, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to countless thousands of angels in a joyful gathering. 23 You have come to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. 24 You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel. Meaning – Imagine how scary it was to be in the wilderness with Moses and the children of Israel. You have just left the familiar of being in Egypt. It was no picnic, but it was familiar and it was what you knew. Now you are out in the desert. There isn’t a convenience store you can run to and pick up a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk. There is plenty of sand – you are in a desert. Oh yeah, you are right next to a mountain. A fiery, gloomy, dark mountain. And this mountain, well it has the voice of God coming from it. God’s voice was so scary that the Israelites begged Him to stop talking. So in other words they told God to be quiet. Contrast that to how God deals with us in the New Testament. We have a really cool home awaiting us. “Thousands of angels in a joyful gathering.” That sounds like a really kicking party in Heaven. But, while we are here on earth, we have joined a gathering of those whose names are written in Heaven. That gathering has become our family. And God is our Father and Judge. God sees all and will judge all – not that guy or girl sitting next to you who wants to run you down. You have come to a better place where Jesus’ blood brings us God’s favor and gives us access to the Almighty God – the one who wants to help us grow and succeed. Application – For you and I as Believers, we have come to a happy place. Our experience with God should be a positive one. Have you ever thought about how much God wants to see you grow? Have you ever thought about how much God wants to help you in your struggles in this present life? God is more interested in seeing you succeed as a Believer than even you are yourself. God wants to fill your life with joy. That is why it is important to plug into a church (a group of Believers) where you are lifted up, where you are encouraged and you are built up in the faith. By the way, if you aren’t getting this from your current church, then it might be time to move on. It is important to stay plugged in to a family of Believers. Going to church and being around other Christians should be the highlight of your week. Spending time alone with God – just you and God – should be the best part of your day. If you do both of these, then you will have a happy and joyful life. Please share this devotional so your friends can be challenged as well. Hope you have a great day.
