Times to Find Out About Me and PBPA This Week Tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th March, 10.00 pm, TV3 Vincent Browns first Peoples Debate: This programme is the first of a series of audience debates, not the usual panel format. Tomorrows topic is the Government deserves the support of the people. There will be an audience of around 200, of which as far as I know, there will be 3 PBPA candidates in the May elections. Me, John Flanagan and Brid Smith, who is standing in the Euro-election. We will do our best to get noticed and to inject some good sense and information in to the business. Thursday Evening, 6th March, Ballydehob Social Club, 8 pm: Ill be there to meet people who want to know more about me and the Party and our policies. As part of that, and as a sneaky ad for Cape Clear Island, we will show a Nationwide Revisited Programme made in 2011, which will sketch in the history of my time on the island and of some of the island families, between 1979 and 2011. Im still there, which probably shows how stubborn a person I am! Friday 7th March: the pub quiz already advertised, in Leviss Bar Ballydehob, in aid of the Irish Guide Dog Association and West Cork PBPA. I hope to be there with Izzy my German Shepherd Guide Dog, but I may have to make a trip home. If Im not, there will be other members qualified to tell you about PBPA and gossip about me in my absence! The main purpose though is to have a good time and raise funds for the 2 causes. Sunday 9th March, ODonavans Hotel, upstairs meeting room, Clonakilty, 8 pm. Again I will be happy to talk to people about myself and the Party and issues of the moment, such as the housing crisis and the imposition of Water Charges. After the meeting I understand there is free music in the bar. If you really want an experts overview of the water situation come to Skibbereen on the 20th in Annie Mays, but that is for another week.I will be returning home to visit my goats and my friend from Germany, who will be covering for me whilst Im out this week, but if you want to ask any information, or tell the group of an issue that bothers you, outside these meeting times, ring: 0877973056 or just send a text to that number and Ill phone you back. Fair Field News After the branches successful Picket of Support at Skibbereen Post Office last Wednesday - see West Cork People Before Profit Alliance facebook page, we are, this week, posting off to the National Planning Board our response to the Town Councils response to the appeals and observations to their original grant of planning permission for the development of an Aldi Discount Store at the back of the Fair Field and to their intention to sell a Right of Way across the Fair Field and straight through the parking spaces so valued by shoppers and workers at the existing Skibbereen businesses. This area is also the site of the weekly Farmers Market and in season, the food festival market, the cycling safety course, the somewhat symbolic Horse Fair, and other occasional events. We feel we have demonstrated the folly of this store in this position in this town, but if you care about Skibbereen as a living community, you may yet have to demonstrate your concern and determination, if the Board, as we are confident they will not, goes along with the Town Councils poisoned legacy to Skibbereen as they fade in to the history of West Cork.
