Tinas Tip for Tuesdays: No rate in your barrel runs? Check your whoa, roll backs, side passing and backing first. If they are weak do some drills away from the pattern just on that. I like to do drills that get my horse stopping off my body and voice no rein. A great way to start that is working a circle or single barrel, about round pen size at trot and lope. Do one circle stop roll back, go the other way one circle stop roll back, mix backing and side passing in as well. Another fun drill using the whole arena is long trot and lope to each corner of your arena sit deep say whoa, if they stop well rest and pet, if they do not back or one rein stop and disengage hind end. It depends on the horse what cues work best so play around with your cues and timing. Start light asking, make the wrong thing hard the right thing easy.
