Tinas Tip of the Day: Cinching up your horse: I recently watched a customer tighten the cinch so tight while horse was tied he almost set back at trailer while tied off hard, so this tip is to suggest you CINCH up in THREE increments~ When I cinch my horse I put on saddle pad & saddle than slide back an inch, where I have 2 to 3 fingers when horse standing square from cinch to horses front shoulder/leg, than I only pull cinch up enough it just touches their hair/skin. I then untie, often tieing with tie rings only not tied off hard, I walk them about 5 feet and tighten enough to get on, than walk a couple more steps and get on, my final tightening is after I long trot before loping circles, or making a barrel run. If you tighten your cinch in small increments your horse will not become cinchy and dread it, it is also better horsemanship to do so.
