Tinubu, Buhari flags off APC Membership Registration BY LEADERSHIP — January 31, 2014 Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday urged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to go and register as members of the party. The duo who addressed thousands of supporters at the APC Secretariat located at Acme Road in Ogba area of the state said the registration exercise remains the only way to know authentic members of the party. Tinubu who highlighted the registration process said the party leadership has put modalities in place across the various wards and units in local governments to ensure a smooth process of registration scheduled to commence on February 5, this year. The APC national leader counselled intending members to shun the temptation of disrupting the registration process or causing division within the party, and warned that those found culpable will face suspension from the party. He added that alliances within the party will not be tolerated, and called on party faithful to ensure unity of purpose ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Tinubu said the APC will work as one indivisible entity and penetrate units and wards to ensure that all intending members register. While fielding questions from newsmen, Tinubu criticised the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega for making reckless statements about the forthcoming 2015 general election. The APC stalwart who urged Jega to resign if he cannot be focused to deliver a free and fair election said Nigerians are tired of imperfect elections. Also speaking, Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola appealed to Lagos residents to come out en masse and register, saying it is the first duty towards ensuring that the party achieves victory in the 2015 elections. Fashola remarked that the strides made by the party across the country could not have been possible if the leadership had not put its foot on the ground and built on its stronghold in Lagos. “It would have sounded impossible if they had told you that we would have 16 governors and counting when Asiwaju Tinubu was the only governor from the party in 2003. But we have seen that it is possible if we all join hands to salvage the nation”, he said.
