Tiny story, but I think its still cool. In the mid 80s i went to an off broadway play written by David Mamet starring Robert DeNiro, Burt Young and others. I got the ticket from my friend Danny who is no longer with us. Danny played cards with Mamet every other week and after I showed an interest in the play, he hooked me up. It was the third row front seat and when intermission came around I sat in my seat and started a conversation with the woman next to me. This woman was Lauren Bacall. She was tall, stunning and had the coolest voice ever and a smile that was infectious. we spoke about the beautiful set design of the stage for a few minutes. The guy who also didnt get up in the row in front of us turned out to be the actual set designer of the stage and turned around glowing about our review he was listening in on. The three of us sat and talked until the second act started again. It was wonderful. After the play was over I told Ms. Bacall that I would love to meet DeNiro one day and that he was one of my heroes. She smiled and told me to follow her to the stage door and wait. She went inside, telling me not to move from where I was standing and 15 minutes later, which seemed like forever, she came out , grabbed my arm and pulled me in and introduced me to DeNiro and the other actors . They all were very nice and all signed my playbill and we had a great conversation. Ms. bacall left during this and I never got to thank her. I remember going home and telling my mom and dad the story and showing them the playbill. Now, today, Lauren Bacall passed away and my mind went right back to that moment and how generous and cool she was. I have been a fan of her films since i was a kid and was so happy that someone I idolized turned out to be so wonderful. It was a night I will never forget. Rest in Peace Lauren Bacall. You touched many a life.
