Tip of the Day I cannot remember if I have posted this tip - TopicsExpress

Tip of the Day I cannot remember if I have posted this tip before or not but it is worth repeating. Sometimes desktops will power up but actually fail to boot. Nothing comes up on screen at all but it shows all of the normal audible signs of life. This can be caused by a single faulty part (eg: RAM), motherboard memory corruption, or outright failure of the motherboard. Sometimes though, simply the act of unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for a time can mysteriously cure. I am honest not sure of the technical explanation behind this phenomena, but I have just looked at a customers computer after he claimed it exhibited the behaviour above. However, it started up for me without a moments pause. This was actually the second time the computer had this problem, and I have seen a few other cases of it over the years. It is probably indicative of a deeper fault, but until it reproduces consistently it is not really possible to fix it. So if this ever happens to your desktop, try the above advice before calling me and see how you get on.
