Tip of the Week: Once youve learned a stance, youll need to learn to move well for effective self defense. Just standing there, toe to toe is not safe against a larger, stronger opponent. Jumping and bouncing around is also not advisable, nor is it possible when youre being assaulted. the skill youll need is to move fluidly around your attacker in a moving stance. Keeping your balance, moving quickly, and generating power in both kicks and punches simultaneously can only come from a strong stance that has learned to move without being unbalanced or losing contact with the ground. Its surprisingly easy to do but because its counter-intuitive, its going to take some practice to do well. The first step is learning to control your own balance so you dont fall over. You want your attacker to fall down, not you. Wing Chun was designed to teach this moving stance. Check out a class and find out how to do it!
