Tip of the Week: Self defense requires a solid stance. If you cant stand up, you cant deal effectively with an attack. A solid stance doesnt need to be some squatting, wide stance with your feet as far apart as you can tolerate. Its very difficult to move quickly out of this position. The best stance is comfortable, natural, and easy to move with. Its more than just foot placement, though. A good stance engages your core, so that you wont get knocked off your feet at the slightest shove. It includes bent knees and hips tucked, with arms forward. This is a stance that allows you to generate power from your legs as a solid foundation. Learning to stand well is the first step in good self defense. Come try out a class and see for yourself!
