Tip of the day! Ok, let me address grains. You all know white flour based grains are horrible for you...they are addictive, inflammatory and put weight on in the gut. What about swapping out for whole grains? As long as you are careful with portion, adding these whole grains to your diet is healthy, tasty and adds variety to your routine Quinoa (keen-wa); forbidden or black rice, wild rice, Farro, bulgar, whole wheat/flax pasta. my favorite way to have most of these is to make with a vegetable broth instead of water (follow directions on the package of liquid to grain ratio for cooking). Roasted vegetables with any of the above are simply fabulous tasting! Quinoa has the highest protein out of all the above. All are loaded with fiber and nutrients. Some of my favorite variations are black rice with roasted butternut squash and toasted pumpkin seeds; quinoa with roasted mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower, whole wheat/flax pasta with sautéed broccoli in garlic and olive oil topped with shaved Parmesan, black rice with grilled and flaked salmon mixed in with a side of asparagus or spinach. These are just ways to brainstorm if you are bored and need to add some interesting, healthy tasty meals. Enjoy! :)
