Tired from a long day and pushing my heavy cart laden with groceries, Chase, the new bagger kid, and I dragged our butts toward the Durango. I popped the hatch release for the back and set my purse on the ground behind the carts wheel to keep it from rolling away. Grabbing a couple bags, I said Its kinda funny that theyd build a grocery store on a hill isnt it? It wasnt always a grocery store. he said. I dont know exactly what it was before though. Its been this for as long as I can remember. Yeah, me too, but Ive only lived here for about 8 years. Surprising me a bit, he asked How old are you? About 30? I nearly dropped the food ... and then started to laugh. Hard. Whats funny? he asked. Still laughing and loading up groceries, I confessed Im gonna be 49 in September. Now more resembling a trout out of water than a high school kid, what came out of his mouth this time was NO WAYYYYY!!! as he loaded the last two bags into the car. I bent down and fetched my purse off the ground, holding onto the cart as he got his hands cleared. Yes way. Ive got a daughter who just turned 29 in June. He blushed, got quiet and started concentrating on an invisible rock in the parking lot. Kicking at it a few times while relieving me of the cart, he said Well thats a really big surprise. I would never have guessed that. After the long and busy day, covered with blasting dust and a couple different powders and no doubt well in need of a hot shower, I just had to beam at him. Kiddo, I dont have a clue how the rest of your night is going to go but just know one thing in your heart: Youve definitely made this old ladys a WHOLE lot better!!! From the mouths of babes ........ and sometimes its all good. :-D
