Tis the season for street marketers and charities... Him: What if I told you that you can help a kid in a developing country by just donating 30 cents a day? Would you be interested? Me: Absolutely! But what if I told you that you can help TONS of needy kids, stop animal abuse, conserve clean water, reduce your impact on the environment, take a stand for female reproductive rights, and all without spending an extra penny...possibly even save some money? Him (suspiciously): Well, yeah. Me: How about going vegan then? Him: Well I thought about it, and its a good idea, but [tap dance]. Me: Ohhhh, I see. You tryina earn a paycheck then. This aint about the kids. Thats aiite, tho. Lemme hear your speech anyway. But I wanna give you mine too. And then well take a vote. Mind you, the point of this story is not that you shouldnt sponsor needy children in developing countries (depending on the organization, evidence suggests theres a great deal of success...see link in comments). The point is that you can make a one-time donation...you can sponsor a kid each week until college...you can volunteer somewhere once or twice a month...but making vegan choices is something you do EVERY DAY, MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY that costs you nothing, but does the absolute most!
