Title: Solar energy and its benefits. Good evening. My speech tonight is about solar energy and its benefits. What is solar energy? Solar energy is the energy of the sun. Mankind has been using it for thousands of years. We have used solar energy to dry our clothes, grow our crops and to cook our food. The modern age is witnessing a renewed interest in solar energy with the use of solar panel arrays to capture the energy of the sun to heat our homes and provide us with electrical power. Today the world is facing a shortage of fossil fuels and nuclear power is not popular due to the dangers of radiation. Once we use oil, gas and uranium we cannot recycle and reuse them. Fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal create pollution and are costly and they are not renewable. Nuclear energy comes with real dangers of accidents at nuclear power stations. We need only look at Long Mile Island in America, Chernobyl in Ukraine and Fukushima in Japan. Solar energy on the other hand is clean, renewable and affordable. It is obtained by using photovoltaic panels that are arranged on panels. These panels can be mounted on rooftops of houses and buildings. They can also be located in large numbers, making huge arrays of solar panels in desert or isolated places. Solar energy has many applications. It can be used to provide energy for homes, offices, vehicles and spacecraft. The benefits of solar energy are firstly, it reduces the dependence of energy consumers on fossil fuel and nuclear energy providers. By using solar energy consumers can create at least a part of their electrical power with solar panels. It gives the energy consumer a more equitable relationship with mainstream energy providers. It allows consumers to save money. Secondly, solar energy provides users of this energy source with good financial benefits. National and local governments can provide consumers with financial incentives to install solar panels on their houses. Businesses can receive tax reliefs for installing solar panels on the roofs of their businesses. Thirdly, using solar energy leaves a much smaller environmental footprint compared to coal, oil and nuclear energy sources. You see, when we construct coal power stations and oil refineries, and nuclear powers stations there is a lot of land used for this purpose and oil drilling is expensive and oil leaks can damage the environment. Massed solar energy panels take up much less space and do not incur the enormous expense of constructing coal and nuclear power stations. Also, solar panels can be affordably mounted on the roofs of houses and office buildings. There is no pollution involved with solar energy and it does not create waste products as in nuclear power which creates toxic nuclear waste. Fourthly, the solar energy industry creates lots of employment opportunities for solar cell and storage battery engineers, sales, marketing and advertising staff, and installation technicians. Fifthly, the use solar energy can see geopolitical benefits. Nations who use solar energy and other renewable energy sources will be less dependent on fossil fuel and uranium suppliers. So in conclusion, I say that solar energy is an excellent alternative energy source. It brings a great deal of benefit to households, businesses and countries. It creates a great deal of economic, environmental, financial and geopolitical benefits.
