Title-winning bosses step down from Flagpole hotseat It has been a whirlwind couple of months for everyone involved with Rathmullan Celtic as the race for the Premier Division title took more twists than a feature-length episode of MacGyver. In the end the hard work, training and skills of the players and management was enough to see us over the finishing line by the slenderest of margins as the much-coveted title was secured. In the aftermath of that success both Paddy S and Burger signalled to the committee that it is not their intention to continue on in their role as manager’s next season. Both lads have young families at home to think of and with the commitment level needed to take charge of the team over the course of a year they felt it would be demanding too much of their time to stay on. Balancing playing and managing over a season should not be underestimated and the lads did an amazing job this year, on and off the pitch. Having talked to both Paddy and Burger, they wanted to put on record their thanks to the players, committee and all associated with the club for the help and support they received over the past season. Everyone played their part and can be proud of what was achieved. From the committee’s perspective, we will be indebted to both of them for a long time. Finding a manager last summer proved to be a very tough proposition. Both of them were reluctant to get involved as they knew they still had plenty to offer as players. In the end they decided to go together and take the job. They knew they had a team capable of going very close to the title and simply weren’t willing to let the opportunity pass by without giving it everything. With their track record as players and their contacts in the game they successfully attracted the couple of additions that the team needed to go the extra distance this season. The results speak for themselves. Along with their players they did something that nobody from Rathmullan could have dreamt about just a couple of years ago in winning the Premier Division of the Donegal League. Sunday 27th April 2014 will be recalled fondly for many years to come. Huge thanks to both and we wish them well on Friday night as they head to the Clanree Hotel to pick up their winners medals as Premier Division Champions!
