The golden wedding anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, at their residence, John-street, Laidley, of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Pitt. Both Mr. and Mrs. Pitt are natives of the State. Mr. William Hunter Pitt was born at Redbank Plains, but came to Blen- heim with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Pitt, in 1870, where he also settled, engaging in farming. He lived at Blenhelm until about 10 years ago, when he retired, and came to live at Laidley. Mrs. Pitt (formerly Miss Sarah Ann Marsh) was born at Ipswich, being the second daughter Mr. and Mrs. PITT. of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Marsh, who later settled at Gatton. The wedding was solemnised by Rev. Thomas Thatcher, Methodist Minister of Laidley, at the residence of the brides parents, Gatton, on February 24, 1888. The family com- prises four sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. The guests, who numbered about 50, included relatives and a few intimate friends. The residence was nicely decorated with golden coloured streamers, bells, and flowers. The wedding cake was made by Mrs. Pitt, and iced in golden shade, and decorated with golden col- oured grapes, leaves, and roses, the work of Mr. A. Mann. Mrs. Pitt was presented with a silver sugar basin lined with gold, and gold spoon, and a presentation of a gold-mounted pipe was made to Mr. Pitt. Mrs. Pitt was also presented with a bunch of French marigolds, tied with golden ribbons, by her youngest grand-daughter (Miss Sadie Milne, of Ipswich). After the breakfast those present were each given a piece of cake, and the health of the happy couple was drunk, with the singing of For They Are Jolly Good Fellows. Both Mr. and Mrs. Pitt are enjoying fairly good health.
