To ALL my friends in Rotary First, both Charles and I want to extended our deepest appreciation to all of you for your out pour of concern for us and Estes Park with the recent flood here in Estes Park. Of course it is not only my community in our district that has been hit by this flood and I want you to know that ALL of you have been in our thoughts and prayers and I hope everyone is safe and dry. So many people have asked what is the status of Estes Park and what is currently happening, I am just going to give some bullet points from the town of Estes Park on what the current status is of the community as of today: 1. The Town is working on trying to get the downtown roads open, They are hoping by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest. 2. A shelter has been set up at the Holiday Inn to assist with evacuees 3. Efforts are still taking place in getting people out of areas here in Estes Park, Glen Haven & of course the Big Thompson Canyon. 4. Both Hwy 34 & Hwy 36 is shut down and they are anticipating both Highways to reopen in early Spring. Estes Park residents can either enter or leave the community through Trail Ridge Road or Hwy 7 and exit through Black Hawk. Currently to get to Loveland from Estes Park it is taking 4 1/2 hours when normally it would take 45 minutes. 5. No Postal Service currently. 6. No volunteers are allowed into Estes Park until conditions become more stable. The list could go on and on BUT there are a lot of lists in a lot of communities in our District right now. I am asking all you to please keep every one of these communities in your prayers and hopefully in the next week we will have an action plan in place on how we as Rotarians can assist the communities that need our help.
