To All my Facebook Friends...A Thought for Monday Morning... Let me begin by saying that I am looking forward to watching the Super Bowl tomorrow evening. Though I am not as interested in pro football as I once was I still enjoy the thrill of the big one. Grocery stores have been putting up displays of food and drink for some time now in preparation for the gatherings tomorrow. Plans are made to either host or attend get-togethers on the big day. And by this time tomorrow evening there will be two camps...the elated and the disappointed. Nothing wrong with watching the Super Bowl. I just wish that there would be as much excitement and anticipation about meeting God in worship tomorrow as there will be about cheering on the Broncos or the Seahawks. We in America have too often replaced worship of God with worship of self-gratification. Why cant we focus on that which is eternal more than that which is temporary (regardless of what some folks think I have a strong conviction that pro football is not eternal). I wonder what Christ must think about our giving so much attention to the athletes who thrill us for a few hours and so little attention to Himself when He gave Himself on the Cross so that we might live forever. And yes, I do plan to watch the game tomorrow...But I will be quick to also say that the highlight of my day tomorrow will be spent in the presence of God and other believers as we worship together in church. Enjoy the game but, please, spend time in the presence of the King of Kings. I assure you that He will give a much deeper satisfaction and joy than anything or anyone else.
