To Geld or not to Geld? There is an article in AHS News Summer - TopicsExpress

To Geld or not to Geld? There is an article in AHS News Summer 2014 which asks this question... um what are peoples thoughts on this.... We see a lot of colts, by different breeders being released cheap why arent they gelded, dont geldings have value? Should we be selling colts we wouldnt use ourselves? The article says better a good gelding than 2nd rate stallion... Many years ago breeders didnt let a colt go to a new home un-gelded, unless it was for suitable stud and agreed price paid, even if terms were reached, the stud owner kept an eye on their offspring. One reason was the offspring was seen as competition for their stallion, so they needed to be sure it was good enough. Now it seems all about money what about responsibility? What do others feel? Its just a discussion point... I choose to geld before I sell unless there is an interest in breeding.
