To Go by Joyce Metcalf Conley (a poem written by my mother when she was in high school) To go, Alone and unafraid, Up the hill of life Would be the sublimation of my destiny. To walk, The sun in my face, The rain in my hair, And the wind at my heels. Alone. To reach the top alone. And, gazing back, To see the path I had made Opening the door of light for others. To feel in my heart The upsurging wonder of life. And to gaze far into the distance, Seeing only heaven waiting. Then I would know I had reached The heights of life. (Love you and miss you Mom!!)
