But, I also wildly anticipated the prospect of experiencing an evening of amazing performances by two legendary musicians, John McEuen and David Amram. Needless to say, I had the pleasure of witnessing musical bliss. For the first time during this incredibly long and cold winter, I actually felt overwhelming warmth and happiness! It all started with the great multifaceted instrumentalist John McEuen, a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. McEuen, standing in the pool of one simple spotlight, opened the show by pickin’ his banjo and taking the audience on an American Roots musical journey. Setting the tone for the evening with his engaging storytelling ability, he performed a handful of songs written in the 1800’s. McEuen was then joined on stage by fellow musician David Amram. The always surprising set covered a lot of musical ground, touching on bluegrass, folk, jazz, and old school country. Each musician played multiple instruments and delivered the material with great ease and integrity. David Amram, an American composer, conductor and multi-instrumentalist, shared some of his tunes. Throughout the performance, it was clear throughout the evening that McEuen and Amram have had such lasting and successful careers because of their love and appreciation for the music they play. I felt as if I was sitting in my comfy little apartment in Brooklyn and receiving a private concert, just for me. What a fun and inspiring treat it was to experience the full spectrum of American music at its finest. Thank you gentlemen!!!
