To Play wrights in Dagbanli: Watching Dagbanli films I and other colleagues have observed that some characters are not properly presented in the stories: 1.BugLana is a priest of the traditional African Religion.His office has nothing to do with black magic.He prays to the Almighty through the ancestors by libation medium. 2.Bukpaha is the equivalent of a witch. In other words a male witch.He is more treacherous than a witch He has magic that destroys human beings without mercy. 3.TimaLana or Kpema is the equivalent of a medical doctor. He uses spirits and herbs.The spiritual aspect is to help him counteract the magic of the Bukpaha,especially if the sickness is the cause of the Bukpaha or witch. 4.The traditional leadership should be properly characterised: a. TingNaa is the chief of a kind of division,sometimes one village,or more villages with a capital. some times the capital is not necessarily the biggest village b.Kpambala is a kind of subordinate chief with or without a settlement c.Nayili Kpema is a counssellor to the Tingnaa or Kpambala Let us present the proper functions in our films.Let us also be aware of the historical times of our stories. eg when the stories contain role of Imams,christian Priests and Buglanas.
