To Senators are trying to reform the criminal justice system. They call it the REDEEM ACT. Wow, as a Christ-follower, I immediately wanted to know what these two Senators had up their sleeves. They have certainly used this word redeemed in the Biblical sense. In talking about the criminal justice system, Booker and Paul, want to reform it. The summary of their idea is this, should the system be mostly about punishment or mostly about redemption? How do we deal with people who commit non-violent crime and return them to society. I dont know if Paul or Booker and Christians, but the principle is Biblical. When I thought about my own personal life in regards to raising my children, I thought to myself, when I have to reprimand my children for wrong acts do I punish them or am I redeeming them, explaining who theyve sinned against (God and others), the forgiveness that is available through Jesus, and the freedom we have through our obedience to Jesus and to those he has put in authority over us.
