To Shikellamy Class of 1969, it’s Mates and Council: Next year - TopicsExpress

To Shikellamy Class of 1969, it’s Mates and Council: Next year we will be celebrating our 45th Reunion, I would like to make some suggestions for that unique get-together. I don’t know about you but I had a lot of fun during my last four years at school. From the great Shikellamy teams we had and those great football games, to the days, well I showed up out in front of the school but didn’t make into the building. We use to say we skipped school. I had great times during those days too, although to some extent I am sorry there we so many. I must confess that most of my Classmates I know on a shallow level. I am partly to blame for that. Today there are maybe 30 gone I will never get to know better. Suggestion #1 I say we have three great days of events during the Reunion weekend. (Event #1) Fellow Classmates who were on bands during their school years get-together to entertain the rest of us at a place that can feed us and has a dance floor. The Band could do it for a very small fee or just volunteer and each of us would order whatever food we wanted to keep the costs down. We could have that event (School dance) on Thursday evening allowing Most “Out of Towners” to get there and settle in. Remember our “Splash-Hops? Well this would be the HOP without the splash. (Event #2) On Friday night Classmates could meet for dinner somewhere that could handle our numbers, a small social where we could have a kind of “Class of 69 Has Talent Show”. Come on I know we have talent in this Class. Limit the time and subjects and numbers but it could be fun. (Events 3&4) Event #3 on Saturday, late morning, we could do a Brunch followed up in the evening by our Class Reunion/Meal/Dancing, whereupon all of us make their way back home on Sunday. In the past a 3 day Reunion couldn’t happen because most of, if not all of us had to work and inviting a Classmate you didn’t know very well may not have been an option. Suggestion #2: One of the issues for “Out of Towners” not coming to Reunions are us having to pay for motel/hotel multi-nights, meals and other expenses due to traveling. We all know now that from Reunion to Reunion some of us don’t make the next one. How about we do our best this Reunion to get as many there as we can? Let’s say, as the song goes “But I like to Get To Know You”, become an Option. Why not those who are nearby invite those coming in from “Out of Town” to stay at their home for a couple of days? I think the attendance might increase more if traveling expenses actually went down due to a fellow Classmate’s invitation. As it is with “Out of Towner” nights in motels, meals, gas/ plane ticket the expenses rises quickly but they would love to come if they had someone welcoming them in. Wouldn’t you love to get to know a Classmate better? Think about it before you blow me off. You’ve got time to feel someone out by next year. Get to know someone, or maybe you already know them. To have them stay at your place with you all catching up on all that’s happened since our School Days I think we would all find out how neat. What do ya say? If it’s yes invite a Classmate then, and that “Out of Towner”, you need to plan on coming in early on Thursday prior to the events beginning on Thursday night followed up by the Reunion on Saturday night. Yea it might be outside your comfort zone, but how many Reunions are left where the thought of this is even and opportunity? NO I am not doing this for me, cause I have already been invited by someone from an earlier Class.
