To The Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City Police. Sir, Sub: Misuse of Mecca Masjid premises for political purpose which had hurted the religious sentiments of Muslims. Complaint against Sri Asad Uddin Owaisi (MP) Hyderabad & President AIMIM Party, Mr Shekar Gupta anchor NDTV, The Management of NDTV and others – Req, Req. This is with regard to a recent interview given by Mr Asad Uddin Owaisi (MP) Hyderabad & President AIMIM Party to NDTV Mr Shekar Gupta anchor NDTV news channel in the premises of historic Mecca Masjid. The interview was broadcast on 21st Nov 2014 and the same clipping has been uploaded on YouTube and other social media networks. Sir, the Hyderabad MP, NDTV channel, its Anchor, the crew members and all those involved in the shooting and broadcast of the above said interview have misused the religious place, Mecca Masjid. They have violated The Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988. The Act clearly defines political activity as, any activity promoting or propagating the aims or objects of a political party or any cause, issue or question of a political nature. Mr Owaisis interview was all about politics, his party “All India Majlis E Ittehadul Muslimeen” upcoming Elections in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal and other issues related to the politics of the country. Mr Owaisi and Mr Shekar Gupta walked inside the Mecca Masjid premises discussing politics surrounding AIMIM Party. Therefore, Mr Owaisi, Mr Gupta,the NDTV and their staff members including cameraperson, assistants and show producer stand accused in misusing a place of worship for political purpose. More surprising was the Supritendent, Mecca Masjid was also seen moving along the shooting crew of NDTV. The Mecca Masjid is maintained by the Minorities Welfare Department of Telangana Government. It is not clear whether the NDTV channel took prior permission from the Minority Welfare Department, Govt of Telangana to film the interview. But in both the cases, the officials of Minorities Welfare Department headed by Principal Secretary, and the Mecca Masjid staff have violated the law. The Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988, clearly says, No religious institution or manager thereof shall use or allow the use of any premises belonging to, or under the control of, the institution - (a) for the promotion or propagation of any political activity. Hence, a case should also be booked against the officials of Minorities Welfare Department for permitting or remaining silent on the misuse of a religious place. In case prior permission was taken, then it was illegal. If not, then by not alerting police about the misuse of Mecca Masjid, the officials supported a crime. Mr Owaisi, Mr Shekar Gupta anchor NDTV, The management of NDTV and others should also be booked under Section 295A of the IPC for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims. They tried to convey a political message by misusing the historic Mecca Masjid. They should also be booked under Section 141 (Unlawful Assembly) during the shooting of the said interview. I request you to kindly take immediate action in this regard and register cases against the Mr Asad Uddin Owaisi (MP) Hyderabad & President AIMIM Party, Mr Shekar Gupta anchor NDTV, The Management of NDTV,Supritendent & Staff of Mecca Masjid, The Officials of Minority Welfare Department,Govt of Telangana and others for violating the law.
