To The Left While at least a few Republicans are open to the idea of increasing the gas tax as a means of putting more money into the highway fund to fix our infrastructure Congressman Paul Ryan is not one of them. House Speaker John Boehner has recognized that we have a serious infrastructure problem but he is also unwilling to increase the gas tax. Exactly how do these men expect to solve the problem is they are not willing to increase the gas tax? The only obvious answer is to cut spending somewhere else and history indicates it will not be the top 1% who will bear any of the spending cuts.
