To UMAVA members & Supporters: WHAT: As we finish observing National Hispanic Heritage Month, the Offices of CA Senator Bob Huff, Senate Republican Leader; and Sen. Mimi Walters will be providing Special Plaques in honor of deceased UMAVA (United Mexican-American Veterans Association) veterans. Ben De León, WW-II (US Army) former Director for Orange Countys VSO (Veterans Service Office). Earned Battlefield Commission. Our UMAVA Scholarship, from which we have issued thousands of dollars to high school students in Santa Ana High School and Orange High School, is named after Ben De Leon. Eusebio Pérez, WW-II (US Army) Silver Star Recipient. Hell on Wheels Napoleón Barajas, Korea (US Army) Henry Hernández, Korea (US Army) John Whiteriver, Korea (US Marines) Additionally, there is a Special Plaque in honor of Antonio Méndez, 91 yrs, WWII Silver Star recipient (US Army), and current very active UMAVA Board member. Antonio also recently received a special recognition from the Belgium Embassy from Washington DC, because of Antonios actions during the Battle of the Bulge. Special mention will be made of other deceased veterans. WHEN: This Saturday October 19, 2013; at our UMAVA General Meeting (top UPSTAIRS level). TIME: 9:30am-11am. Pledge of Allegiance & Prayer at 9:30 am; RECOGNITIONS at 10am. WHERE: American Legion Post #132, 143 South Lemon Street, Orange, CA. Our UMAVA home since 2006.
