To Who it May Concern One fish for Lake Nipissing you got to be - TopicsExpress

To Who it May Concern One fish for Lake Nipissing you got to be kidding. I can see the writing on the wall right now. Only nets allowed for commercial fishing. Well the natives have their rights what about ours. I am not a prejudice person. Im tired of talking about what matters and not taking any actions. I want my opinions heard. My husband was born in Callander and knows this lake like the back of his hand. He has picked blueberries down the french river and fished for a meal. He has fished here all his life. Pick due worm to sell at 25 cents a dozen to fisherman when he was younger for spending money. We raised our kids on this lake. Summer fishing, Winter fishing, picking berries, watching to see if the osprey would return to its nest in the spring. Taking them to the north channel to watch a catfish bit their line or a sunfish and a bass if we were lucky. Swim in Gauthier Bay and watch for schools of baby catfish. We have seen sturgeon jumping out of the water on the south shore. Have had bass nibble on our toes while sitting on rocks with our feet in the water. Lake Nippising has been our playground. We are an average family that didnt play sports and fishing is our entertainment and enjoyment. We didnt go anywhere else because we had everything right here. Ive seen nets washed on shore with dead fish. Ive seen nets being pulled and couldnt mark a fish on that spot for a long time after. A NET HAS NO MERCY. What do they do with the pike, herring, bass, perch whitefish, ling, muskie, sturgeon? I remember seeing pictures at the dump of wasted fish. Now do they throw it back in the lake and let the seagulls cormorants, osprey and bald eagle eat it as long as they dont sink. I also have heard they want to purchase a machine to clean perch. Your concern is with the pickerel population, what about the rest of the fish species. Winter fishing we use to break a line a week or more with big pike. We havent seen any in at least 4 years. We caught no whitefish this year. No ling this year. Less perch this year. One black bass and we did release it and a few herring. Yes we eat pickerel, perch, ling, pike, silver bass and I smoke ling whitefish and pike. We dont waste anything, or release it back. A net does not do that. The MNR wont let people help restock. Does the MNR want this to be a commercial lake only? Have the limit gone down on what they are allow to net? Has there been a crackdown on illegal nets? As they dont have the game wards that they use to. What happens when the natives run out of fish to net? There wont be anything left to save. Well if this goes thru I wont renew my fishing license or my grandsons as they have enjoyed this lake as well. We will sell our boat. Get a passport and spend my money in the states for 3 months. Just think of how many people think this way. Marinas will close, bait shops. I wont have to buy winter clothes, new boots, fishing line, tackle, pay storage, maintenance and repairs for the boat . Stores will lose the money Id spend on groceries and other purchases. Also the people I see here from out of town picking up groceries and other purchases. It might not be much but in the long run adds up for every person thinking the same way as myself. For the summer not much sense in staying around here as you have taken what I love to do away. So we would go other places and spend my money else where. People will not come here to catch one fish! Wake up MNR this decision will affect more than fishing. Marilyn Mallette Callander ON.
