To Whomever this may concern or touch, In 1989 I met a wonderful single lady (Linda Schlindwein) with 2 children, Steven (age 5) and Sasha (age 3). While she shared custody of the kids with her ex-husband, I had a very large role in their upbringing, and both children came to call me Paw. I taught Steven the joys of reading the dictionary to better his understanding, mental capacity and vocabulary. I also introduced him to music and had a role in his choice to become a excellent guitarist. We talked often over the years. In 1999 both kids (now 15 and 13) moved out of their fathers residence, by choice to go live with their Mother in Colorado full time. Where she went beyond and above to make sure her kids were well taken care of. In 2003 Linda and I reconnected after 4 years apart and both children (now 19 and 17) were eager to have me back in their lives, we forged a new, stronger bond, we discussed everything and moved them back to Wisconsin, I took them all under my wing again making sure they had a roof over their head, clothes on their backs and food on the table. In 2006 I bought a house in Tennessee and moved MY family (the kids now being 22 and 20) down south where they BOTH struck out on their own to find employment opportunities, new friends and both failed and meaningful relationships. Steven moved to Texas and had a lust for life and always made the best of every low point, yes we had our differences, but the 4 things he loved most was his music, his fiancée, his fiancées daughter and his mother. He grew to be a very good man. The NIGHT before my 45th birthday, MY son (now 30) and his fiancée, Ashley Huff, went out to dinner to celebrate his new job, his admittance to school and the possibility he would be joining the military to defend OUR country, I was so proud of him. Little did any of us know that a drunk driver by the name of Saul Diaz would turn all of our worlds upside down on February 17th, when he travelling at a high rate of speed in his Cadillac and rear ended Ashley, driving a blue Geo Tracker causing a passenger (MY SON) to be ejected from the car. Diaz had initially fled the scene, but returned later where he was taken in custody and charged. Here is the link, that we look at every freaking day… khou/story/local/2014/09/09/11970288/ Steven and his Mother talked nearly every day on the phone for months, there is no more saying goodnight, or how has your day been, or the possibility of having a grandchild. No more family reunions. Its been WELL over 2 years now since MY SON has been taken from me and his Mother. There has not been one night in which Linda has not spoken his name since, it has bonded us, but also put a huge strain on our relationship. And the Courts in Texas have let SAUL DIAZ pay his bail, so he can go home and kiss his loved ones every night, go back to the bars, live a normal existence… while they keep giving us bullshit about, we are so backed up with trials…Its a open and closed case! WTF are you waiting for Texas? While we may never have absolute closure, the ONE thing we want is JUSTICE! SAUL DIAZ whether intentionally or unintentionally MURDERED my son, via intoxication manslaughter after he left the scene of the crime, was arrested and has been free to live life normally for 2.5 years while we grieve everyday! Not ONLY was my son MURDERED by SAUL DIAZ, But Ashley, now bears a horrendous scar across her face to remind her of the man she loved and lost and her daughter, who LOVED Steven is now without a loving step dad! I Implore anyone who reads this, or has connections in Texas, to get this case prosecuted and put this guy away, instead of letting him be free to kill another person on a drunken spree!
