To a large extent, Elkton owes its existence to a 19 year old slave woman. In fact, if it had not been for Hetty Boulden, Elkton may have joined the ranks of other Chesapeake Bay towns that succumbed to the British torch in the War of 1812. But it didn’t. Why? Because Hetty Boulden, the slave of Frenchtown area plantation owner, Frisby Henderson, fooled the British by taking them to the guns of Fort Hollingsworth instead of the town of Elkton as the British had ordered her.
