To all London FBU branches Following the fantastic lobbying - TopicsExpress

To all London FBU branches Following the fantastic lobbying campaign around early day motion 454, calling for the scrapping of the 2015 firefighters pension scheme, we have learned in the last few minutes that a debate and vote WILL take place in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon. This significant development is testament to the phenomenal work of FBU members over the last few weeks. It is rare indeed for a full-scale parliamentary debate and vote to be called at such short notice as a result of the direct pressure that MPs have been placed under by a group of workers in a dispute. It also shows that anything remains possible in this dispute. The FBU is calling on all firefighters to head to parliament on Monday to lobby MPs before the debate takes place. It is vital that lobbying takes place right up until the vote, and the best opportunity to persuade MPs will be face-to-face in the run-up to the debate on Monday. It may also be possible for firefighters to watch the debate from the public gallery in the Commons. Specific details, including timings, will be confirmed in due course. So far, 263 MPs have signed EDM454. We urge FBU members to spend the next five days lobbying those who havent yet signed. Yours in unity LONDON FBU
